Dear Friend,

It's another busy month at WildCare! Our Education Department has been working hard on events for you to enjoy. Starting this month, every Wednesday at 11:00 am and every Saturday at 3 pm you can meet our Wildilfe Ambassador animals and their keepers in the courtyard for a personal, face-to-face wildlife encounter. We are also adding a new Interpretive Pool Bird Feeding every day at 12:30 and 4:30 pm. Also, the nomination deadline for the 2009 Terwilliger Education Award is fast approaching on July 15. That's education!

Wildlife Tips

bird print bullet points

Baby bats sometimes fall from their roosts during heat waves, and their mothers cannot pick them up. This occurs more frequently when loss of habitat creates overcrowding in bat roosts. You can be part of WildCare's Wildlife Solutions by buying and installing a bat box.

bird print bullet points Fawns are spending their days hiding in the grass while their mothers are browsing. Unless the baby is injured or looks ill, privacy is all it needs.
bird print bullet points Raccoons babies are learning to eat solid foods this month. They will be out with their mothers looking for insects, grubs, amphibians and eggs. WildCare's Wildlife Solutions can help you protect your lawn from the masked marauders.

bird print bullet points Spring babies are starting to grow up and learning to look for food. To prevent unwanted dinner guests, close up pet doors at night and bring in any pet food left outdoors.

So Much More Than Sushi

If you're lucky enough to have some free time for a walk on the beach this summer, you may enjoy identifying some of the many marine plants we call seaweed. Seaweeds are not weeds! If you like sushi, you know that many could more aptly be termed sea vegetables.  Read more...

Growing Up Raccoon

July is prime time for young raccoons to make their first appearance in our back yards. Love them or hate them, raccoons are our wild neighbors and here to stay. WildCare rehabilitates them when they are sick, injured or orphaned, and WildCare helps homeowners protect their property from their all-too-dexterous little hands. Read more...
