WildCare Terwilliger Nature Camps are a fun way to stimulate learning about nature and instill a life-long respect for the environment. Weekly camp programs are designed to captivate, engage and challenge young people; building environmental knowledge and values. Weekly topics and hikes immerse children in specific nature themes. Fees:$125 - $350 (includes camp t-shirt).

2010 WildCare Summer Camp Schedule

Session 1 FULL 6/7-6/11 Animal Senses FULL
 No hike 9am - 12pm Min age 3- ent K
Learn to hear like a Jackrabbit, smell like a fox and see like an eagle.  Experience the world through the senses of our wild neighbors.  Discover how a bat finds its food, and a deer recognizes her fawn.  Meet live wild animals and examine how they find their food, protect themselves and interact with others.
 
Session 2  FULL 6/14-6/18 Father Nature FULL
No hike 9am - 12pm Min age 3- entering Kindergarten
Its not easy growing up wild.  There are a lot of dangers, but thanks to some of the fabulous fathers of the natural world, many animals have some extra help.  Just in time for Father's Day. Find out about nature's dedicated dads as you learn about and maybe even meet some animal babies
 
Session 3a  FULL 6/21-6/25 CA is a Wild Place FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 12pm Entering Grades K-1
What do grey whales, quail and dogface butterflies all have in common?  They are just some of California's "official" animal.  Find out ore about the special plants, animals and habitats that make California such a wonderful place to live.  Some of them might live in your own backyard.
 
Session 3b FULL 6/21-6/25 CA is a Wild Place FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 1pm - 4pm Entering Grades K-1

Session 4   FULL 6/28 - 7/2 Beautiful Bugs FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 1-2
Let WildCare take you on an exciting micro-adventure exploring the woderful world of insects, spiders and the rest of our tiny, overlooked wild neighbors.  Explore their unique microhabitats and learn about their amazing lives.  Meet some fascinating live native and non-native "beautiful bugs".
 
Session 5  FULL 7/5-7/9 Helping Hands for Wildlife FULL
Weds hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 3-4
Come and discover what goes on behind the doors of WildCare's wildlife hospital.  Take a tour of the hospital and assist in the care and feeding of some of our educational wildlife.  Discover and try some of the techniques used to treat wildlife patients.  Learn ways you can help our native wildlife stay wild and healthy.  (See insert for more information)
 
Session 6  FULL 7/12-7/16 Feathers and Scales FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 2-3
We often think of birds in the air and reptiles on the ground, but that is not always true.  There are tree climbing and even gliding snakes and many birds prefer to keep their two feet firmly on the ground.  Come and explore these two different animal groups and find out how similar they really are.
 
Session 7 FULL 7/19-7/23 Wet and Wild FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 1-2
We are surrounded by water: ponds, rivers, they bay, the ocean and wetlands.  Each habitat is unique, housing an amazing array of creatures, from the gigantic Blue Whale to the tiny Salt Marsh Harvest Mouse.  Come and explore these wonderful habitats
 
Session 8  FULL 7/19-7/23 Wildlife Outdoor Adventures FULL
Entire camp outdoors 8:30am - 2:30pm Entering Grades 5-7
Spend a week hiking and exploring one of Marin's amazing State Parks.  We will explore this amazing ecosystem during the day, including a full day exploratory canoe trip through the wetlands, and at night when we end the week with an overnight camping trip: cooking over the fire, hiking in the dark and sleeping under the stars.  (See insert for more information)
 
Session 9  FULL 7/26-7/30 Into the Woods FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 2-3
There are many different types of forests, such as redwood and oak.  Each is special in its own way.  While exploring these habitats, campers will discover what makes them different and similar.  We will also learn about the many wild creatures that call these habitats home.
 
Session 10  FULL 8/2-8/6 Creatures of the Night FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 1-2
As the lights go out and you curl up in your bed, other creatures are just beginning their day.  Nighttime, or nocturnal, animals have many adaptations to survive in the darkness.  You will be surprised to learn what goes on while you sleep.
 
Session 11  FULL 8/9-8/13 Helping Hands for Wildlife FULL
Weds hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades 4-5

Session 12  FULL 8/16-8/20 Animal Athletes FULL
Tues and Thurs hike 9am - 3pm Entering Grades  K-1
Can you life 50 times your body weight?  An Ant can!  Come and challenge yourself against our wild neighbors.  Find out who is the fastest (on land and in the air), can jump the longest, see the farthest or travel the greatest distance.  You will meet some live animals and discover their amazing athletic abilities.
